New Zealand Tourism Internships & Work Placements
New Zealand is a tourism hot spot with the country revolving around the Tourism Industry. Intern Options can place you anywhere in New Zealand with the two most popular destinations being Queenstown and Auckland.
The stunning Queenstown area is New Zealand’s tourism extreme sports capital. There is an amazing mix of stunning scenery and extreme sports like bungy jumping, jet boating and New Zealand’s top ski fields.
This all makes Queenstown a top place to visit or if you’re lucky to work and play in.

You have a choice of being placed into a paid position in a tourist attraction, tourism operator or hotel (in a tourism position) for between 6 and 12 months.
Eligibility
You must have the right attitude to apply for the New Zealand programme. Intern Options have a great relationship with New Zealand employers and we don’t want to place any interns or graduates who will hurt these relationships.
We are looking for hard working, enthusiastic applicants that will make their university/ college and country proud.
Eligibility for a current Tourism student:
- Be a current student at a university or college
- The internship or work placement is a requirement of your studies
Eligibility for a Tourism graduate:
- Have graduated from Tourism studies
- Be eligible for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa
How much does the programme cost?
Prices below do not include airfare to and from New Zealand, visa cost or insurance cost
- 6 month internship – UK£895
- 12 month internship – UK£950
The above programme fees are made up of a £300 deposit with your application to allow us to start talking to employers on your behalf. Once we have found and negotiated you a placement then a final payment of GBP595/650 to secure your position is required.
If for some reason we could not find you an internship in Tourism then we would refund your deposit in full.

What other costs will I need to budget for?
Outside of our programme fee you will need to budget for:

- From the UK this will be between UK£700 and UK£950 return or UK£450 – £650 one way
Visa cost – GBP£80
Insurance – Between £90 and £300 depending on what you need (average is UK£160)

What will my wage be?
Your wage will be set by your employer, so everyone will be different. You will be paid between NZ$12 and NZ$14 (New Zealand dollars) per hour. This is enough for you to cover your living costs.
Accommodation – Do I find this myself?
This is covered in the New Zealand Additional Information PDF. When you arrive in New Zealand we will pay for your first two nights accommodation. We will book you into this accommodation for two weeks which is usually more than enough for our interns to find their own accommodation. Accommodation in NZ is quite easy to find and cheap.
Sometimes employers will offer you subsidised employee accommodation.
What support will I have in New Zealand?
You will have support from our New Zealand team who are based in Wellington. This is 24 hour support incase you are having problems with work or anything else.
