How many positions are available?
For 2009 we had 80 positions available and for our 2009 Horticulture Programme we are looking at another 80 positions which again will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Typically positions fill quickly and we cannot guarantee you a position if you do apply late.
When can I start?
We have the most positions available to start June/ July in Australia. We can also look at start dates outside of this but these are limited and you might need to travel around Australia to work continuously. If you would like to talk through your options in Australia give us a call or fill in our enquiry form – alternatively if you are in London or passing though make an appointment to drop by our London office for a chat.
What work will I be doing?
All positions starting June and July will be pruning work on vineyards around Australia. After this time work is available on banana and mango plantations and various other fruit picking positions as demand requires.
Who will I be working with?
You will be working with a mixture of fellow travellers either just starting off their Australian travel plans and those coming to the end of their year. There will also be horticulture students, both Australian and from all over the world. There will be anywhere from 20 to 100 people mostly between the ages of 18 and 30 working on the same vineyard as you, so conditions will be sociable and you will meet a lot of people.
What is the pay like?
Pay rates will be based on A$18 (approx £9, €11) per hour, however a lot of pruning work is done on piece rates (e.g. 40 cents a vine) which is designed to ensure that an average worker, working an honest day can achieve this rate. Good workers earn over $20 per hour.
You will also be eligible for 9% Australian superannuation (pension) contribution on top of your wage. We will assist you to set up an Australian fund and introduce you to a company who can transfer this home for you.
What’s included – We help you every step of the way
Full support is provided from point of application through to you flying out of the UK. This includes assistance with your visa application, booking flights, insurance, opening an Australian bank account and Australian tax number. Accommodation will be organised for you and the cost is additional to the Intern Options programme cost. Full details on accommodation cost and location will be given before you apply.
How much does this programme cost?
The cost of our Australian Horticulture programme for any length of time will be £399. This price does not include the cost of Flights, Insurance, visa or accommodation costs.
A Second Australian Working Holiday Visa
Yes, you heard right, it is possible to gain a second working holiday visa to stay a further 12 month period in Australia. This applies to countries that are eligible for the main 417 sub class working holiday visa. This Intern Options programme may qualify you for this after you have completed a minimum of three months (88 days) work in this programme on your first 417 working holiday visa.
For full details and eligibility criteria please see the Australian Visas page.
