What will I achieve during my Internship?

We customise each internship to your needs, so are happy to work to incorporate whatever you need in order to ensure you gain the appropriate university credit, or the relevant experience, that you require. When you send in your application and CV please include a cover letter that clearly states your learning objectives. These will be discussed with the employer and wherever possible incorporated into the training agreement between you and your employer.

Will my internship meet my university’s requirements for my sandwich year?

It is your responsibility to check exactly what your university requires of your internship, and then state those requirements clearly in your covering letter (please see above).

Will I be paid during my Internship?
We can find you a placement in New Zealand or Australia that is paid, but please be aware that not all placements are. Most internships in New Zealand - around 95% - are paid, and hospitality placements in Australia are also usually paid.

How long is the Internship/ placement for?

The time you can spend in Australia or New Zealand is restricted by the visa you will be travelling on. Twelve months is usually the longest placement you can do in both Australia and New Zealand.

How long will it all take to organise?
To arrange your Australian internship/placement you will need to allow 8-10 weeks. In New Zealand you will need to allow on average 12 to 15 weeks, the maximum amount of time it will take to receive an offer is 24 weeks. You will also need to allow up to six weeks to obtain your visa. If you email us we can provide some feedback on how long it should take and what kind of placements you could take up in Australia or New Zealand.

Are there application deadlines I need to meet?
No, at Intern Options we believe in flexibility so we don’t have application deadlines. You will need to allow time for us to find you a placement and up to six weeks for your visa to be processed. Other than that we can find you a placement at any time of the year.
Can Intern Options help me organise flights and Insurance?

Intern Options does not include airfares or insurance in the cost of its programmes. We recommend you shop around to get the best deal, but will provide you with information on what our preferred partners have to offer.

How do I apply?
If you know what you want to do, and where you want to go, please contact us and we will guide you through the application process or see the New Zealand or Australian application process detailed on our site.

Can I gain University Credit for my Internship?
In many cases you can obtain university credit, however it is up to each applicant to ensure the Internship they are undertaking meets the requirements of their course to obtain credit. We suggest you consult your placement tutor or lecturer to arrange this.
How do I know what jobs I can apply for in Australia or New Zealand?
Before you put an application in, send us an email detailing what qualification you have or what degree you are undertaking. Tell us some areas you are interested in that relate to your studies and we will come back with some options for you.
