Equine Internships and Work Placements
The equine internships are perfect for horse enthusiasts who have a good level of riding experience and are not afraid to get stuck in and help out with the tasks and chores that need doing before they think of any riding or fun on horses.
We can look at an Equine Internship for you between October and May each year predominantly, as this is the New Zealand competition season and the time when there is the most happening. We can look at applications outside this time on a case by case basis.
Example Equine Internships & Placements:
- Equine Internship, Matamata - Stud & Position Description
- Equine Internship, Waikato - Stud & Position Description
- Equine Internship, Raglan - Stud & Position Description
The New Zealand Equine or Thoroughbred industry is well developed but small. Many of the studs or farms that you will be placed on have produced national and even international race winning horses. Many studs will be small and often family run. You will be working with a small team including the farm owner and other workers. Most farms compete in local and national eventing or showjumping or hold events themselves.
Where will I be placed – Up to you…
We can place you into most areas of New Zealand, however the majority of our equine placements are into the North Island in the Waikato area. This area of New Zealand is big for farming and is home to many of New Zealand’s top sport horse studs. The weather is warmer, the sun shines longer and the grass grows quicker than in the South Island of New Zealand.
Will I be paid?
You will be paid an allowance on most farms, but to be honest everyone we have placed into New Zealand for a equine internships has said they are not doing it for the money. All equine placements include free board and food while you are working, which means your living costs will be next to nothing. On top of this each stud will pay you an allowance that will be agreed on before you arrive in New Zealand.
