Hannah is in the group of hospitality students we placed into Queenstown, New Zealand. I got to meet Hannah last time we were in Dublin and like Aine and Sian she will do well on her internship I’m sure.

After landing in Christchurch, New Zealand fresh off their long flight from Dublin to New Zealand, the three girls had an 8 hour bus ride from Christchurch to Queenstown… The flights were booked between Christchurch and Queenstown unfortunately.

Intern Options placed Hannah with Sian into a fantastic four star hotel in Queenstown. Their intial starting offer is in Food and Beverage, where they will start their 6 month hospitality internship.

Hannah had done quite a bit of research on New Zealand before she applied. This combined with her CV and cover letter that were very well written made sure she was accepted by the hotel. The thing that came through from Hannah’s cover letter that impressed the HR manager was that she was enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Aine has just arrived this morning (UK time) in New Zealand for her six month hospitality internship. Apparently the weather is “great” and the sun is shining. Aine is travelling with her two friends Sian and Hannah from DIT. All three will be doing their 6 month hospitality internships in hotels in Queenstown as part of their studies.

Aine didn’t have any previous hotel experience on her CV when she applied for the Intern Options hospitality programme. The internship that Intern Options found Aine is with a very good hotel in Queenstown.

In 2009 Intern Options placed two students from DIT into New Zealand, you can hear from Sinead and her hospitality internship feedback on our blog.

Aine will be starting in a food and beverage position which was her starting offer from the hotel. When Aine starts her internship next week she will be evaluated over the first weeks of her internship. If she impresses the hotel management and there is a place within the hotel for her to move to, there could be this option. We wish Aine all the best for her internship in New Zealand. We know you will love Queenstown in the summer and hopefully you will get a bit of skiing in at the beginning of the winter. We will be placing 15-20 Tourism and Hospitality interns into Queenstown at the end of June/ beginning of July ready for the start of the winter season in New Zealand’s adventure tourism capital.

Name: Sian

Sian is on her way to New Zealand with two of her friends to start her Hospitality Internship in probably the best tourism town in the Southern Hemisphere, Queenstown. Sian is completing a course requirement for her International Hospitality Management degree at Dublin Institute of Technology.

Last year we placed two students from DIT into New Zealand, you can hear from Sinead and her hospitality internship feedback on our blog.

Sian will be working with her friend Hannah, also from DIT in a fantastic hotel in the heart of Queenstown. The starting position will be in food and beverage and depending on how they both work from there, there could be opportunities to move into front desk positions.

Sian, Hannah and Aine will be arriving in New Zealand this coming weekend. The summer in New Zealand is in full swing and they will have good weather up until June. In June we will be placing between 50 and 60 students from around the world into New Zealand. A lot will go to Queenstown in time for the winter season to start. Queenstown is known internationally as a very good ski destination.

Hospitality Internships Programme

James applied to Intern Options for his New Zealand Hospitality internship in December 2009. James’s application was a bit different to the majority of hospitality students and graduates we usually accept on our internship programme.

Although James went to the University of Gloucestershire, who we place a lot of hospitality and tourism students from, James had not studied hospitality. A graduate in business, James decided he had a passion for hotels and went about getting experience in a local hotel.

James wrote one of the best cover letters Intern Options has seen, which in large contributed to his excellent placement he has in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Because James was a graduate, he was a bit more flexible with his start date. This flexibility was not needed as we secured James a great placement in under a month.

So what does James have to look forward to?

James has been placed for one year into Queenstown in a very good hotel. If he impresses them, which I am sure he will, there is the Rugby World Cup coming to New Zealand in 2011. I am sure James will be given the opportunity to move to Auckland where the competition end of the tournament will be held.

We wish James all the best in New Zealand, hope you enjoy the end of the summer in Queenstown. The best thing about being in Queenstown is you have the winter to look forward to and some of the best skiing in the Southern Hemisphere.
