What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Where do i start?! I am so excited to experience every aspect of Australia! Waking up to go for a morning surf and experience the golden beaches, socialise in the well renowned coffee shops, and of course participate in beating the Aussies at a game of cricket!!

From a more serious perspective, I am relishing the chance to adapt to the Australian culture and I am really excited about the business internship I am going to partake in.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

I hope to learn a detailed insight into the day to day running of a successful company, where I can use my academic knowledge to fulfill my potential in a hands on approach. Relative work experience is vital in society today and I hope to learn and develop critical skills in order to further my career. I hope to achieve excellence in any task put in front of me, to prove to myself I have what it takes to be a success.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

I believe an internship abroad will add the ability to see business and personal issues from another cultural perspective. This will enable me to adapt to changes and have valuable skill sets that other home graduates wouldn’t have.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

I am traveling to Australia for my Internship because it’s a country I have always wanted to experience. Ranging from the tourist attractions such as the Sydney Harbour, to experiencing the golden beaches and watching the Melbourne Storm!

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

Extremely jealous……..their loss, my gain!

Anything else you can think of?

No…I just want to get there now!!!!

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Mostly, I am looking forward to further broaden my horizon on a professional as well as on a personal level. I wish to experience the daily life and culture of Australia and I hope to gain new skills from working in a competitive and international business environment.

I love travelling and I’m very excited to meet new people and explore the diverse and natural beauty of the country.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

I hope to gain more practical experience in my field and built on my previous skills and knowledge. Furthermore I look forward to facing new challenges and learn from new tasks and people. Due to my strong interest in culture, I also hope to gain a more profound understanding of the local business mentality and approach.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

I have always thrived to develop an international CV with diversified skills. I think this internship will add to this whilst giving it a stronger focus through a more in-depth experience in my field, which should give the CV a more competitive edge.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

Australia fascinates me! An internship in Sidney will not only place me right in the centre of Australians innovative and international economy, but will also give me the opportunity to immerse in its diverse and dynamic cultural and social scene.

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

All my friends that have visited Australia have completely fallen in love with it and will definitely come and visit!

Talk me through the first week in Sydney?

My first week in Sydney was very interesting. At first when I stood outside Sydney airport and had to find my way to my accommodation in my head I thought ‘what have I done’. But as soon as I got to my room I passed out for a couple of hours. To be honest the first week I was too jet-lagged to feel any emotion. But what a great city.

What do you like most about your internship company?

The thing I like most is the people I work with are really cool. And down the road is a park where I can go sit in the sun for my lunch break.

What are three things you have learnt on your placement?

1. People aren’t scary even if they are from Australia
2. You actually have to listen alot unlike lectures.
3. Go to bed early because 9-5 day is harder than a university year.

How have you found applying the theory from your studies on your internship?

Applying theory to the workplace is easy it comes everyday, but actually experiencing the theory will be a great help in my final year as I can relate to the textbook.

What is the best “touristy” think you have done in Sydney?

As I am playing rugby on the weekends not much but I did manage to take a trip to the Blue mountains good views. But I had more fun (and always will) at the beach. So probably surfing at Maroubra beach.

Have you found it easy to meet people in Sydney?

Sydney people are really friendly, but to meet people you have to be confident and go out there and not be afraid to meet people.

If you were planning your internship again, what would you do differently?

Definitely persuade my best friend to come out with me, would have been unbelievable.

Any other feedback you can think of!

Accommodation – its pretty tricky to find good accommodation in Sydney at a reasonable price but the place I am staying is excellent with a great landlady (who is like a mum) and would recommend it to anyone.

Cheap places – Cheap places to eat is the Landsdown at Sydney university, Scary Canary, The gaff. If people are looking for cheap places to eat there are many, but the best will be to start looking around backpacker they always have offers because backpackers never have lots of money.

Join a Club – When you come join a club of some sort if its rugby, cricket anything because it puts your into a great social network when you get here they make you feel like your at home. And they will always look after you and help you out.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

I’m looking forward to going to Australia for my internship. I can’t wait to experience the unique lifestyle that Australians enjoy and meet new friends throughout my stay there. While interning, I’m hoping to gain the skills and experience that I can utilize and put to practice in the work force of the marketing field.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

I love traveling to different countries. A classmate of mine recently told me of an international program she had in Brisbane one semester and couldn’t stop talking about how much she fell in love with the country. I have not met a single person who did not like Australia, so picking that destination for my internship seemed like a sound and fun decision.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

My resume currently does not indicate that I have any experience in my field, but the internship will most likely improve my resume considerably. Most of my professors in college disclosed that they had experience overseas which gave them an edge when applying for a job in their field. I hope to have the same advantage as well.

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

Even though I haven’t told anyone of my plans, I do have a strong intuition that my friends will go green with envy, but they will be happy for me. It will be a very interesting experience and I cannot wait to get started soon!

In the meantime we asked Melissa to let us know a bit more about why she applied to Intern Options and what she hopes to get out of her internship.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Although I’m looking forward to working an internship in the field I’ve been studying, as it will give me an idea of what my career might be like, one of the things that I have to admit that I’m most looking forward to is just having the opportunity to live in another country. Through my studies, I’ve already had the chance to live in 3 very different countries and it will be even more exciting to be able to add a very different fourth to that list. After living in France, it will be great to get back to hearing English and to be able to experience some warmer weather is also a plus.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

I hope to learn from this experience on a professional level, skills that I can use in the future, and also to learn what working in the marketing field is actually like. As students, we spend most of our time on the academic side of things and it can be even more important to learn from the practical side of things. I also expect, as I have through every experience abroad, to learn a little more about myself in the process.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

I think this internship will perfectly suppliment my studies overseas, while giving me the further edge of having a little more international experience than simply studying abroad. I hope it will make me stand out from the crowd.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

This internship is a final part of an international masters degree and since it could be carried out anywhere, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to see and live in another part of the world. These chances do not happen often, and even less as we get older. While I have seen all the “ins-and-outs” of Europe, Australia is in a part of the world I have never been to. Everyone I’ve meet from Australia has been very down-to-earth and friendly, which reminds me of people back home in the south. The language was also a deciding factor.

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

I’m afraid my friends are already pea green with envy hearing of my travels abroad, so I’m sure they’ll be even more jealous that I’ll soon be moving on to cover another region in my already full passport.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Not going to lie, really looking forward to experiencing southern hemisphere culture and weather. Having done various modules in branding and tourism I am aware of various marketing campaigns that tourism Australia has created, where the bloody hell am I?, on my way!

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

Internships in my eyes signify a desire and willingness to learn. What I want out of this is an experience on which I can look back on and feel that it helped to shape my personality and also my career path in some way, shape or form. I hope to achieve a strong sense of satisfaction that I have accomplished something constructive and if I can lay some roots down in Australia for future careers then this will obviously be a massive advantage.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

As I said, internships represent desire and a commitment. I want my CV to show that I have the drive and motivation to move abroad into a foreign environment and work successfully as an expatriate. Also taking an unpaid internship shows that I am willing to accept poor financial return for something that means so much to me.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

Australia is a growing economy, it offers many opportunities for expatriates who only speak English. The weather is a big attraction for employees not just tourists and it represents an opportunity to develop a new group of friends and to experience life in another country. All of this is important to me in shaping my self and also my future.
