Currently I am working on a tropical island just off the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Everything is going so well, I am so lucky to be working at such an amazing place.

I am a member of the food and beverage team and I’m learning so much new skills which will be useful when I go home for final year of University and I know this experience will look good on my CV.

The people we work with are lovely and have been so helpful to us making the big move over here. Most weeks we work very long hours but believe me the pay makes up for this fact, the hourly rate is amazing.

Our accomodation is brilliant, it doesn’t cost us much in rent and its excatly what a paying guest would stay in. Its close to the beach and we are allowed to use all the facilities on the island like the pool, tennis courts and gym. We also get a pretty good discount on food and drink on the island as well as in the general store, we also are allowed a free ferry back and forward to the mainland so this comes in very handy.

On the social side, there is not very many “live on staff” on the island but the small number there is all get on so well with each other. We often have dinner in each others cabins and have been over to the mainland for a few big nights out and most of the staff all when to Melbourne Cup Day Races which gave us an oppertunity to wear our hats. But my highlight of Australia so far has been the two days we all spent in Bryon Bay, Its a must see of Australia!

Finally another thing that has been great about organising my internship through Internoptions is that I got to work and live alongside Lucy who also organised her internship through the company. So far we’ve had some good times and its great to have someone with you doing the same thing.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

To meet a lot of new people, get to know a new country and to get new experiences.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your placement?

I want to develop as much as possible beacuse I love the buisness!

What do you think this placement will add to your CV?

I think it will be very positive for my cv to have a placement in the Whitsundays, since it has good reputation and to move a cross the world shows that you are a independent person.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

I’ve never been to Australia and it has always been a dream, and when I found this oppertunity I thought why not? I think this will be the best adventure ever!

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

Since the winter begins in Sweden when I leave I think everyone will be pretty jealous when I’m in sunny Australia and having the time of my life. Hopefully I inspire some of my friends to travelling to Australia as well :)

Oliver was placed in one week from receiving his application to him flying out to Australia. This is by far the fastest application we have processed. Oliver has had this to say about how his internship is progressing so far:

Hi Jon

Yeah its all going well, been here 5 weeks now and settled in well. Its a great environment to work at and the community/social life is great fun.

Working in the Restaurant is enjoyable. It is pretty consistently busy, as the customers are on holiday every day the restaurants get filled. Unlike a normal restaurant that is busy throughout the weekend, slow Monday – Tuesday and picks up on Wednesday. Here its full on all the time. I work 38 hours a week with shifts starting at either 12, 2 or 9 open and usually finishing at between 9-11. And get 2 days off.

Living on the island is expensive as its a holiday resort and everything is imported so everything is at a premium. Although as I work in a restaurant I do get cheap/free meals. They say the general store here is the most expensive in all of Australia, but you can order food on the internet that gets delivered to your door.

The pay is fantastic and will I probably leave with a nice amount saved up.

The social life and community is great with most people going out on regular nights.

The living areas are basic but its all you need really, shared room with kitchenette. Everything is within walking distance and my walk to work takes less than 10 minutes.

In your free time theres plenty of activities to do and as staff I get a discounts on mostly everything.

I applied to work in the Whitsundays as the degree I am pursuing is Tourism & Events Managment and since Australia is a mecca of tourism it suits my long term objective. Additionally, the location of the Whitsundays Resorts in relationship to the Great Barrier Reef has strong appeal to the Scuba Diver in me. That Whitsundays is a renowed Resort is a significant added bonus to all of it.

In the last eight years I have visited a few 4 and 5 star Resorts as a guest. Given this perspective, I am very interested in being part of the team who can leave a positive impression on the guest visiting an exceptional Resort. I have the kind of attitude, experience and personality to positiviely impact guests at Whitsundays. Though I understand I will be employeed in Food & Beverage I hope my presence/exposure helps me gain knowledge about Resort managment.

I feel priveledged to be a candidate and know this will be viewed very postively by future employers. No one in my close circle of friends and family have ever been to Australia. All of them support my adventurous spirit but are also incredibly envious!

What are you most looking forward to in New Zealand?

I am most looking forward to moving away from home to work in a new environment and experience the industry. It will give me the chance to experience a different culture, and to create a network of connections, which I am lucky to get the chance to do so.

What do you hope to achieve/learn on your internship?

I hope to learn the skills that are needed for the hotel trade, and to broaden my experience and knowledge of the hospitality industry.

What do you think this internship/placement will add to your CV?

I think it will show potential employers that I am willing to leave my comfort zone, and that I can adapt to new situations.

Why are you travelling to New Zealand for you internship?

I want to go somewhere that isn’t close to home, so that I can see for myself a different country and way of life ( and also to see if New Zealand really does have more sheep then Wales haha)

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

My friends are quite jealous at the thought of me going to New Zealand for a year, and some have already decided that they are coming out to visit! :)

I hope to achieve more work experience in a job role that i love doing. I also will learn alot about myself, as i am setting out on a new adventure on my own.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

I have visited Australia before and i think it is one of the most beautiful countries with so much to do and see, the weather is a bonus too.

NEW Financial Investment & Banking Internship
The scope of this business ranges from financial advice and estate planning, insurance, mortgage broking and accounting through to stockbroking and advice about alternative investments. For this reason, there are too many possibilities to list intern duties, but the opportunities are endless.

There are currently two Intern Options interns with this company who are both loving the work environment and the wide range of learning outcomes available to them.

Human Resources Internship
This company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia, which has been operating since 1947. The company services all types of industries and businesses, from technical operations through to manufacturing, professional services, government business, and retail – large, medium and small.

With 85 permanent staff and managing approximately 65 contractors, the HR team is always busy. As an intern with us you will get experience in a busy HR team implementing and managing new employees induction as well as maintaining current employee details and contracts.
