Last month we talked to a range of UK employers about how they viewed the need for work experience.

This month we talked to some of the UK’s top universities about the benefits of a quality summer 2010 internship and how this enhances not just future job prospects, but can lead to higher degree marks in years to come.

Meet the Intern Options Team at your University

Applying for your Internship

We get asked a lot of questions before students or graduates apply for their internship through Intern Options. Below is some information that will cover the majority of the questions we get asked on a regular basis.

Current Graduate Internship Vacancies

The Sydney and Melbourne programme is currently our most popular – offering students the chance to gain valuable international experience that will make their CVs shine to employers. All positions are available for between 10 and 26 weeks and are unpaid.

HR Internship - Job Description (Sydney)
This is a new internship description on the website for an HR or Human Resources internship in a busy HR department in a large Sydney company. This would suit a graduate or an intern looking for their first bit or really good experience on their CV.

Graphic Design Internship - Job Description
This is one of the many graphic design internships we have available at the moment. If you’re looking for experience in a wide range of graphic design duties then this is a great position to work in and it will look very good on your CV also.

HR/ Human Resources Internship – Job Description
This company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia, which has been operating since 1947. The company services all types of industries and businesses, from technical operations through to manufacturing, professional services, government business, and retail – large, medium and small.

With 85 permanent staff and managing approximately 65 contractors, the HR team is always busy. As an intern with us you will get experience in a busy HR team implementing and managing new employees induction as well as maintaining current employee details and contracts.

Hospitality & Tourism Internships – Current Vacancies
5 Star Wellington (New Zealand) Hotel have requested two more interns to start February 2010. After the fantastic DIT interns, the hotel have requested two more Irish hospitality interns for six month internships.

Travel plans: My plans are to go with my friend and possibly my sister, we head out to Bangkok in Jan 2010 then hopefully get to Cambodia straight away where we plan to travel around Asia until begining of May where we then arrive in Perth. We havent scheduled any flights but have paid to get to New Zealand and Buenos Aries. In all we are away for one year:)

Travel Plans: Travelling from Hong Kong to Australia for a working holiday and will be doing 3 months of horticulture work to save some money to fund part of her trip around Australia. Joyce is travelling with her friend Cheang, also from Hong Kong.

Travel Plans: I’m moving to Australia with my family on a state sponsership visa (which is permanent) I’m aiming to obtain a job through the horticultral programme in order to save money, meet new people and explore australia.

I’m really looking foward to meeting everyone else on the programme and hearing everyone elses plans and ambitions out there, i’m sure were have a great laugh and see what australia is all about.

Travel Plans: I will be starting at Margret River near Perth, and after that I think I would quite like to travel across the south coast through Victoria, and see Melbourne and Sydney. I have a completely open mind though, and am open for suggestions concerning the best places to go and see. I think that this experience for me will be more about the people that I meet rather than the places that I go. My only plan is to have a fantastic experience.

Travel Plans: Doris will be travelling to Australia in 2010 to start work either late June or in July with Gemma and Niko and the rest of the Margaret River crew. Doris is going to Fiji to meet up with her friend that is currently living in New Zealand.

Travel Plans: Niko is heading to Margaret River near Perth to start in the July intake. He wold like to work for 5 months and then do some travel.

Travel Plans: We fly to Thailand on Boxing day and are spending 2 months in Asia, after that we are heading to Australia for 8 months, we are starting work in Mildura, Melbourne mid June before finishing our trip in the States. We are looking forward to meeting new people.

My experience traveling in a foreign country is that you avoid all the touristy places and instead seek out remote beaches and historical landmarks. I don’t have anything planned exactly but I know I want to use the weekends for traveling and I want to go snorkeling and surfing.

Luckily I have a couple of friends who have moved from the UK to live out there now and I am wanting to see them again.
