Rebecca applied in March for her PR/ Media and Event Planning combined internship. This gives our Sydney team lots of time to find her a great internship in Sydney. Intern Options will start talking with employers we work with in this area and let them know that Rebecca will be starting in September. These companies can start thinking about projects and work that will be applicable for Rebecca and plan her into their work schedules.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

I am very much looking forward to not only gaining work experience in a foreign setting, but also learning more about the Australian way of life and culture. I’ve been to Australia a few times before and really like the people and the atmosphere, and looking forward to actually living there.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

I hope to gain a lot of experience and knowledge during my internship which I  can use in the future. I hope to be able to complete tasks and duties on my own by the time I complete my internship.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

I think it will be very beneficial to add to my CV, as I will have more added experience and knowledge of this related field.

Why are you traveling to Australia for your internship?

I chose Australia for my internship because, I have been there a few times before and really like the laid back life style and the people, and would really love to be able to live there for a bit!

Beth applied in February for her internship to start in June. Beth is on her sandwich placement as part of her university degree. She is required to do 12 months which she will either do all in Australia or half in Australia and then finish off the remainder in the UK.

Beth has an interview in the next week or so for a great company in Sydney. The role will involve organising the national conference for an engineering body in Australia. Although this will be an event planning role there could also be the opportunity for Beth to be involved in the marketing and promotion of the event as well.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

I’m looking forward to the winter not being anywhere near as cold as England’s winter! I can’t wait to have the beach pretty much in my backyard. I’m hoping it lives up to it’s expectations because I’ve been told Australia is an amazing place to travel to. And of course…I want to see the famous sights of Sydney!

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship?

I’m hoping to achieve an in depth understanding of Events that take place in countries other than the UK from first hand experience.  I want to see whether things are done differently over there to what they are like here.

What do you think this internship/ placement will add to your CV?

Hopefully, it will add experience into the field of career I want to go into after my degree. It’s not only a great experience to travel and work in Australia, but also it’s going to make me more attractive to future employees.

Why are you travelling to Australia for your internship?

Once in a lifetime opportunity.

How jealous do you think your friends are going to be?

They are already pretty jealous! They are saying they are going to miss me like mad but want me to go because they would kill to have this opportunity. Plus they want to come visit…!

I applied to Intern Options because in the framework of my studies I’m searching for a 3 months internship aboard, from May to July, and I want to do it in Australia, in event management, and Internoptions can realizes it for me!

During this internship I would like to improve my skills in event management, marketing, communication, customer relationships…I would like to see how we organize an event from the request of the client to the day of the event and how we communicate on an event, to make marketing research in the area of the corporate market and development of new event styles.

This experience will add something special to my CV, some added-value…More over I’ll improve my english level, which is very important.

I want to do this internship in Australia because it’s a destination which has always made me dream, and I want to realize this dream. Everybody at home is gonna be really jealous!

Andrew applied for an Events internship on the 29th of January 2010. We have already found Andrew a placement which was lightening fast. It also meant I was too slow in getting Andrew’s profile up on our blog.

So tomorrow morning Andrew will be speaking with an Australian charity on the phone to secure his internship. Andrew will be starting in March this year and completing a 15 week internship in Sydney.

Andrew is currently in Auckland (where Jon from Intern Options from *sigh*) and the weather is in the 30′s, yes another sigh!

Andrew has a little events work experience on his CV. This will be a great internship in Sydney. Intern Options have placed interns with this charity in Sydney previously and all have had great things to say about the charity and the work they were given.

The three top objectives Andrew wanted to achieve during his event planning internship were:

• To broaden my experience of event organization and management, particularly in the variety of events managed.
• To develop my skills in event management by being involved in all areas and stages of the process.
• To better my understanding of implementing clients’ needs.

So we should find out this week that Andrew has been offered his events internship in Sydney. We wish Andrew all the best and we know this will be a very valuable piece of work experience to have on his CV. He can also continue to work on his tan in the summer sun in Sydney.

Thankfully I have met some really good people here who I can do that with. I spent my first 3 weeks in the wake up hostel which was nice and centrally located, I had almost resigned myself to spending my whole year there, among snorers, bag russlers, and rather intimidating starers, this was after seeing some interesting places but don’t be put off, I persevered and after making profiles on every flatmate website I could find and sending countless emails with no replies I found a lovely flat in town. Sadly I had to give up my dream of living in Bondi but it’s not all bad, I get to travel over the Sydney Harbour bridge every day which is great!

I’m not going to lie, I never wanted to come to Sydney because I envisioned that it would be like London and that just frazzles my brain, the tube all the people who are in a massive rush and wouldn’t dream of cracking a smile, but I’ve got here and its amazing, going to the beaches on the weekend, which is possible in the UK but to be honest who wants to go in the rain?, sitting in parks right in the middle of the city surrounded by skyscrapers and everyone is always willing to help, which is especially good for me seeing as I find it incredible easy to get lost.

Put it this way it took me two attempts to find the Sydney harbour bridge, which prompted my dad to send me a picture of it just so I knew what to look for, which was literally a straight line down for my hostel (I did manage to find it the next day thankfully). It is amazing and if unlike me you aren’t pathetic and don’t have a phobia of birds especially the abnormally big ones which linger down by the Opera house then you will love it too I hope….

I have started working at an events planner in Surry Hills and so far so good, the girls I’m working with are all really nice, took me for cocktails to say hi at the beginning so it can’t be all bad can it? If your on the fence about coming to Sydney maybe this will sway you, about 4 pm on Friday it is standard procedure to crack open a bottle of wine or get a bottle of beer and spend the last hour or so answering the phone with a drink definitely worth it!!

So everything is going well so far, off to see the Script this week and can’t wait, how I’m going to get home I’m not too sure yet but hopefully I find a way!

Well everything is ready to go for Jennifer, we have found her a great placement and she is has stopped in to see her parents in the Middle East on the way to Sydney, and I hear she has started work and is enjoying her internship in Sydney so far.

Jennifer originally applied for our Perth Hospitality programme to work in an event planning internship in a hotel.  Unfortunately this didn’t work out due to the current state of the economy in Perth.  BUT luckily we could switch Jennifer to our Sydney Internship programme.

Jennifer needs to complete a 12 month internship, so she will be doing two, six month events management internships over 2009 and 2010.

I will let Jennifer tell you about her internship, she was excited to get down to Sydney so hopefully it has all started well.  The company we have placed Jennifer with, we have had many interns at before and all have had a fantastic time and learnt loads.
