Commis and Demi Chef positions in one of Australia’s top island resorts is a dream come true for any new or experienced chef.

Question: What makes the early starts and frantic life of a Commis or Demi Chef worthwhile? 

Answer: Spending your days off lying on the beach or enjoying the hundreds of things to do on a tropical island or Great Barrier Reef.

The island boasts over 15 different dining and restaurant options ranging from five-star restaurant overlooking the coral sea to the casual dining of the golf club.

By joining this award winning team, you will be exposed to the best kitchen working practices and have a true culinary experience.

Position Scope:

Work both individually and as a member of a cohesive team to provide consistently high standards of food quality and production, whilst adhering to the resort’s product standards and specifications. To ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction at all times and to encourage return visits.

Commis or Demi Chef – Eligibility Criteria

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years practical experience in a hotel or ala carte restaurant kitchen. You will be an individual with a keen eye for detail, have an excellent understanding of quality culinary operations.

Most of all you will have a passion for food, fresh ingredients and be a team player.

How much does the programme cost?

Prices below do not include airfare to and from Australia, visa cost or insurance cost. For what is included in this programme please see the Australia Hospitality Internships page

  • 6 month internship – UK£895
  • 12 month internship – UK£950

How much do I get paid?

There is potential to earn and save some good money on the Whitsundays hospitality programme. As a chef on the island you will be paid a salary that is inclusive of a 9% superannuation (pension) contribution.

Annual Salary:

Commis  Chef                            $46,500 (Australian Dollars)

Demi Chef                                 $47,500 (Australian Dollars)

You also have the option to work a further 15 hours per week in another area of the resort, outside the 38 hours in your culinary placement. You will be paid 125% of your normal wage/ salary to do this.

When can I start?

There are no set start dates, the resorts operate all year round due to the tropical climate.

We currently have 6 places to start in October to December 2010
