Robert’s Tourism Internship – Wanaka and Queenstown
University: Harper Adams University
Course:
Adventure Recreation Management Degree
Currently in: Queenstown, New Zealand
For how long: 10 months (4 months ski field, 6 months in Queenstown tourism operator)
.
Rob applied earlier in the year for a ten month tourism internship and with the degree he was doing (adventure recereation) there was only really one place for Rob to do his tourism internship. That was New Zealand’s adventure capital – Queenstown.
Rob started at the beginning of July just in time for the New Zealand ski season. It will be interesting to hear how the ski season went in New Zealand’s Southern Alps.
Rob’s objective for his 10 month tourism internship in New Zealand was:
A working placement in New Zealand, and particularly Queenstown, offers many opportunities for me to acquire valuable experience for my academic programme. I am looking for the chance to make a major contribution and also to learn from an experienced and well-established company operating in this world-class destination.
With two months to go in his first tourism internship Rob will then move to Queenstown’s largest tourism operator. He will join three of our other students working there, Kyle, Jessica and Jamie. The adventure theme will still be at his second placement with bungee jumping, buggie racing, one of the biggetst rope swings I have ever seen and many other exciting activities.
Enough from me, over to Rob to fill you in on how the snow is in New Zealand and more importantly, how is he going on his tourism internship.
