<description>Hi everyone, good to see there are some comments on this article already.

The reason we wrote this article was to get students (current students especially) thinking about what employers look for and how to plan for graduating and to make you as employable as possible.

A couple of stats for you to ponder on and I only have the Higher Education stats for 2006 but there were 96,000 Higher education qualifications awarded for business studies. So essentially 96,000 people graduated in 2006 with a business qualification. This means that you are competing against this amount of graduates, so what can you do to differentiate yourself from this group.

The university you went to and the quality of their programme, the marks you gain and the experience you have on your CV are a few good places to start.

Food for thought hopefully and keep the comments coming, they are good.

Cheers, Jon

<description>haha yes my university said something similar, at the end of the day you will be competing against everyone else with a marketing degree and with just a degree you&#039;re not that employable as I have been told many many times.

Good luck with graduating and maybe you should read this article again...

<description>I think your going a bit overboard with the work experience thing! Im at mmu studying marketing and we had a talk at freshers week about the degree and how sort after graduates are from mmu and i forget the percentage of graduates that get employed but it was high.

i didn&#039;t read it all but i think companies will want to hire me when I finish my degree

		<description>Hi Matt

Thanks for your comments and this is very much along the lines of the students and graduates we are speaking to at the moment. I guess it is fine with just a degree in the boom times when everyone is hiring but this year and I would say very much in the years to come you will need work experience or you just won&#039;t be considered.

All the best for the job hunting, it is not the best thing to do in the world but at least the weather isn&#039;t too good!

Cheers

<description>Great article and all ringing true for this finance graduate who didn&#039;t get his experience while studying, I 100% agree with this article. I think it would have been a struggle to go to Australia financially but I would have found the money howevery I could looking back from the position I&#039;m in now. I graduated with no experience in my field (finance) and I guess expeceted to walk into a job because that was why I did my degree...

But after sending off 100&#039;s of copies of my CV I have had nothing back from employers. Ringing recruitment agencies they would not even except my CV as they had so many CV&#039;s in my area from people with the same degree as me and experience.

So although it looks like this will be a large commitment financially I think it is a small price to pay to not waste time after you graduate. I expeced to be on a good salary with lots of suits and not a poor student any longer. No so much now...

All the best to this years graduates and wow I&#039;m starting to sound like my parents
